Dec 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The hitherto unknown facts about a massive sea monster named Pliosaur are going to be unveiled courtesy the very powerful CT scanners in the UK. The X ray is being used to develop a 3D image of the sea predator which was almost 4 times larger than the T-Rex. It used to terrorize the seas almost 150 million years ago. The fossil skull is almost 8 feet long which gives an idea how colossal the creature was. The skull was discovered at UK’s Jurassic coast in recent times. After the scan is complete it would be revealed whether the skull belongs to a new species or not. The reptile had paddle shaped limbs that helped them in moving around fast in water even with such a mammoth body. Pilosaurs had huge sized teeth similar to crocodiles.
The scientists are of the opinion that the creature whose skull has been found was near about 50 feet in length. Its weight was over 7 tonne. The fossil is now being separated from the rocky casing by Scott Moore-Fay. He said that the work is pretty time consuming and on an average it could take over 1000 hours.
He said to a reputed media entity “It’s incredibly exciting. Nobody has ever seen this fossil, so I get to see it as it is coming out of the rock - it is almost like magic.” The CT scanner which will be used in the work was funded by EPSARC or Engineering Physical Science Research Council. The funding also came from University of Southampton. It is among the most powerful CT scanners in UK.
