3,000 Delhi Metro workers to undergo simulator training
January 12th, 2012 - 7:33 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 12 (IANS) Nearly 3,000 Delhi Metro maintenance staff will undergo special training using simulators to explain the technical details of the trains’ functioning and improve their efficiency, an official said Thursday.
Seven simulators will be used to impart training to around 3,000 employees.
“The seven independent training simulators (models) enable imparting training to staff in a close-to-real situation in controlled environment about how doors automatically close and open, emergency control brakes and train air conditioning, among others. It enhances their troubleshooting skills and operation of the train in case of faults,” said H.S. Anand, director, rolling stock.
The simulators at the training institute of Delhi Metro at Shastri Park in east Delhi have models on train brakes, air supply, door system, auxiliary system, traction system, air conditioning and the train control management system.
“The modern metro coaches procured from abroad have complex functions. So it is necessary that the maintenance staff have a clear picture of the technology,” said Konain Ahmad Khan, deputy general manager, training institute.
Each train simulator generates a 3D computer image similar to the real-time operating environment of train, including signals, feed back and braking system, he said.
“Simulators equipped with all the controls and the instruments as found in a real train help the maintenance staff to quickly and effectively learn about how the train works,” Khan said.
