nobelStockholm, Sweden, Oct 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) If the announcement of the Nobel Prize winner’s list is anything to go by, it has been made quite evident by the Nobel authority, that they placed utmost importance to the concept of communications this year. So, we have two Americans, Charles Kao and George Smith and the Canadian Willard Boyle, sharing the top rung for the coveted award in Physics this year.

The trio have been appreciated and recognized for the work that they have done in the field of physics. They have been able to bring about a certain revolution in the development of fiber optic cables, from the threadlike derivations of glass that can carry the phone as well as the net data in the form of the light energy. This sort of a light detector is said to lie at the heart of almost all digital cameras, that are known to be available in the market. It allows for light to travel over a much larger distance that ever made possible before.

According to the reports made available from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, half of the winning amount is supposed to fall on the share of the UK- US citizen, Kao as it was he who had urged the experiment to move ahead and gain the present momentum. Kao’s insight in to the matter had led the researchers take up the invention of the fiber optics to the next level. The other half of the prize money would be shared by the duo of Boyle and Smith. The total amount that the trio will receive is said to be about $104 million.
