London, Sep 23 (IANS) More than 200 million people play games on Facebook every month, according to the social networking site’s founder Mark Zuckerberg.
Speaking at Facebook’s ‘Gaming Event’ at its headquarters in Palo Alto, San Francisco, Tuesday, Zuckerberg revealed that 40 percent of the site’s user base enjoy its social games such as Farmville.
The figure suggests that the gaming has become one of the primary reasons why people now visit the site.
According to Facebook’s statistics, the top 10 games on the site have more than 12 million active users each, the Telegraph reported.
However, Zuckerberg told the audience that it was complicated as social games, despite being in the top five things that people like, “they’re also in the top five things that people hate”.
He told journalists: “One of the biggest drivers of negative experiences has been the games. But games are in the top five”.
“When we turn weight of game stories in News Feed up - we get complaints. Turn it down, get complaints. We want to build and enable anything that hundreds of millions of people want to use,” he added.
Last week, Facebook launched Places, a mobile tool which allows people to share their location, in the UK, a few weeks after its US debut.
