pangolinKuala Lumpur, Dec. 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Flesh of many animals have attracted hunters and pangolin is no exception. It’s meat has always been a threat for this animal and many people have tried to hunt them illegally for a sumptuous meal. This week, the wildlife authorities of Malaysia have arrested two men for the alleged smuggling this animal. According to the reports, the authorities have been successful to rescue one hundred and thirty pangolins from being illegally traded.

The reports of the pangolin rescue also states that two men accused in the case have been detained in a cemetery of central Pahang state. Officials might interrogate them to know where they wanted to trade these animals to. Earlier, many people have illegally traded these animals to medical shops and restaurants, which has reduced the population of these species significantly.

Pangolins have been marked as a protected species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of the United Nations and trading them without legal orders is prohibited. Men who were charged for trying to sell the pangolins across the Malaysian border might have to face a severe penalty for their act. Illegal trade of pangolins to Hong Kong, Japan and China has been a common practice of several people in Malaysia. Earlier, this week, the marine police of Malaysia saved sixty two pangolins from being traded for meat.

Indiscriminate slaughtering of pangolins for their meat one day might make it one of the extinct species. The Wildlife department of Malaysia has taken active effort so that they can check the illegal trade of this animal and the save the species.
