Johannesburg, Oct 22 (IANS) South African President Jacob Zuma has criticised the killing of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Gaddafi, who ruled Libya for 42 years, died Thursday after his hometown Sirte fell to the National Transitional Council fighters.

Zuma Friday said that instead of being killed, Gaddafi should have been captured and tried at the International Court of Justice, Xinhua reported citing the South African Press Association.

“I understand there was war in Libya. In a war situation, people die, people are captured,” Zuma said.

However, he expected Gaddafi to be captured, given that there was a warrant of arrest issued against him.
