Hyderabad, April 6 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s son-in-law and evangelist Anil Kumar Monday surrendered to police following accusations that he campaigned for the ruling Congress at a religious meeting.
The police had registered a case against Anil Kumar for allegedly campaigning for the Congress during a meeting of pastors in Khammam town.

The police said he surrendered to the Khammam district superintendent of police. The evangelist was later released on bail.

Anil Kumar had allegedly appealed to pastors to vote for the Congress and the police had registered a case on a complaint by opposition parties.

This is the second time in a week that Anil Kumar has stirred a row by allegedly campaigning for the Congress at a religious congregation.

Earlier, he appealed to pastors in a meeting in Karimnagar to pray for the victory of his father-in-law and his party.

The police also seized over Rs.1 million from some pastors attending his meeting in Karimnagar. The opposition parties alleged that the money was brought for distribution among voters.

The police had registered a case but later gave a clean chit to Anil Kumar, saying the money was brought for religious purpose.

On a petition by the opposition parties, the state election authorities handed over the case to crime branch of the state police for investigations.
