Youth need to be kept away from insurgency: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) Home Minister P. Chidambaram Sunday said youth in bordering areas of the country need to be motivated to keep them away from anti-nationals and separatists groups.
“The work of keeping people in the national mainstream is not to be done by the government alone. NGOs and people should pitch in through small initiatives,” Chidambaram said at the 46th raising day celebrations of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) here.
The home minister said the SSB has done some pioneering work under its comprehensive border management works and endeared itself with the people on Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders.
“Unlike other borders, these two borders present special difficulties. They are open borders. For a border guarding force with an open border… calls for great tact and wisdom apart from being vigilant and strong,” he said.
