Youth Congress wants wealth of ex-CJI’s kin probed
December 30th, 2010 - 4:19 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, Dec 30 (IANS) Youth Congress vice president M. Liju has written to his top bosses in the party to seek a probe into the alleged amassment of wealth by P.V. Srinijin, a Youth Congress activist and also the son-in-law of former chief justice of India (CJI) K.G. Balakrishnan. In a letter to the party’s top brass, Liju has said that strict action should be taken against Srinijin if something is found amiss.
“An explanation to this effect has to be sought by the leadership against Srinijin and if not found satisfactory, strict action should be taken against him,” the letter says.
It was retired Supreme Court justice V.R. Krishna Iyer who first brought up the issue Monday and demanded a probe into various allegations of corruption against Balakrishnan, currently chairman of the National Human Rights Commission.
Advocates in the Kerala High Court were baffled how Srinijin, a lawyer by profession, was able to accumulate huge wealth as he was not in full fledged practice.
After the weekly state cabinet meeting Wednesday night, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said that proving his innocence was the only way out.
“Judicial officials should be above wrong doing,” he said.
