New Delhi, July 22 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Friday sought the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa over his alleged involvement in illegal mining in the state.

“The report on illegal mining by the Karnataka Lokayukta has named Yeddyurappa as being involved in wrongdoing. This has been confirmed by Justice Santosh Hegde even though the report has not yet been officially released,” the CPI-M said in a statement.

“With this indictment, Yeddyurappa has no other option but to resign from office. After the report is submitted, all those named for wrongdoing should be prosecuted under the law,” the CPI-M said.

“The BJP leadership cannot prevaricate in this matter any more. It must own up full responsibility for instituting a government in Karnataka which is riddled with the mining mafia and those patronizing them.”
