Yashwant mum on furore in BJP
August 26th, 2009 - 1:06 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS) A vocal advocate for transparency in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), its leader Yashwant Sinha has so far preferred to keep quiet over the churning following the expulsion of Jaswant Singh and Arun Shourie’s comments that the party was in the same state as a kite adrift.
“Sorry. I don’t have any comments to make,” Sinha told IANS when asked about the expulsion of former defence, finance and external affairs minister Jaswant Singh last week for his book “Jinnah: India - Partition - Independence”.
Sinha also preferred to keep mum on another party leader Arun Shourie criticising the BJP top brass and asking the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the party’s ideological parent, to play a more active role in selecting BJP leaders.
Sinha, a former finance minister, was one of those who had earlier said accountability needed to be fixed for the party’s debacle in the April-May ballot.
The BJP is contemplating whether or not to initiate disciplinary action against Shourie, who on Monday had created a flutter by calling his party a “kati patang (a kite adrift)” and its chief Rajnath Singh “Humpty Dumpty”. The party Tuesday sought his “clarification” for his remarks.
