Kolkata, Feb 4 (IANS) Facing the heat from Left parties on the Kirit Parikh panel suggestion on deregulation of petro prices, Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Thursday tried to soft-pedal the issue saying there were differences between recommendations and implementation.
“There are differences between recommendations and implementation of any proposal,” Banerjee told reporters here, declining to comment on the Parikh panel’s recommendations to hike petroleum prices.
Instead, Banerjee turned to the price rise issue.
She said: “We are extremely worried about the price rise issue. I think the union government is also anxious about the same which is why the prime minister has called a meeting in the capital”.
The committee chaired by Kirit Parikh has recommended total deregulation of petrol, diesel prices with a suggestion to immediately increase the price of kerosene by Rs.6 per litre and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Rs.100 a cylinder.
“The government should take the responsibility to control this skyrocketting price of essential commodities,” Banerjee said, blaming the West Bengal government for its failure to regulate the food price inflation in the state.
