Kolkata, Aug 10 (IANS) A woman member of Bhumi Uchched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) was injured Sunday in a crude bomb blast at Nandigram in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district, the police said. Crude bombing and firing started early Sunday between activists of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and Trinamool Congress over land acquisition at five villages of Nandigram - Osmanchowk, Jalpai No. 7, Jadubarichowk, Sonachura and Bhutarmor.
“BUPC activist Hasina Bibi, 35, was inside her residence at Bhutarmor. A crude bomb burst near her house and she suffered serious injuries,” district police superintendent Satyashankar Panda told IANS.
The woman has been hospitalised.
Panda said: “We have sent a police team to Osmanchowk, but our personnel have not been able to enter the other four villages. No arrests have been made so far.”
Two Trinamool Congress supporters were allegedly beaten up by a CPI-M activist at Khejuri Sunday afternoon.
“CPI-M activist Jiten has beaten up two of our supporters at Khejuri’s Singhpara village Sunday afternoon,” Trinamool Congress legislator Sisir Adhikari claimed.
“We are looking into the matter,” Panda said.
