Sheikh Hasina Dhaka, May 9 IANS) Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina may be forced to alter her plans to visit North America due to her husband’s failing health, media reports said Saturday.
Hasina visited he husband, retired nuclear scientist M.A. Wazed Miah, at the Square Hospital here Friday night, The Daily Star newspaper said.

“He (Wazed Miah) is not yet out of danger. The members of the medical board formed by the hospital to treat the scientist will be increased from six to around 14,” Sanwar Hossain, director of medical services of Square Hospital, told reporters.

“Such strain of a disease bears risks. His arrhythmia developed this Friday morning. No medicine was reacting to this. So he was immediately given a temporary pace-maker,” Hossain added.

Wazed Miah, suffering long from high blood pressure, renal failure, diabetes and asthma, has been kept under close observation at the hospital.

Reports said Hasina might have to reconsider her plans of meeting US President Barack Obama as well as other American and Canadian leaders during her tour planned for this month.

Her children, Sajib Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul, are expected to reach Dhaka Saturday to see their ailing father, Awami League joint secretary Obaidul Kader said.

A former chief of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Wazed Miah has been unwell for over a year. He had earlier received treatment in New Delhi and Singapore.

A number of ministers, lawmakers and senior Awami League leaders went to the Square Hospital to see the ailing scientist Friday. Special prayers were offered at mosques after the Jumma prayers for his early recovery.
