Will react on Balakrishnan issue at right time: CPI-M
January 6th, 2011 - 3:56 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, Jan 6 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Thursday said it will react at an “appropriate time” on the allegations of corruption against former chief justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan.State Home Minister and CPI-M politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said his party will act in a responsible manner.
“We will meet and discuss and then come out with our findings on the present issue concerning Balakrishnan. It is the Congress which made Balakrishnan the chairman of the NHRC (National Human Rights Commission),” he said.
Balakrishnan’s son-in-law P.V. Srinijin drew much flak for allegedly accumulating huge wealth, much more that his known sources of income.
It was retired Supreme Court judge V.R. Krishna Iyer who first took up the issue and asked Balakrishnan to step down as the NHRC chairman and face a probe.
Srinijin, a former top office-bearer of the Youth Congress, resigned Wednesday and issued a statement that he is prepared to face any probe.
On being asked why the party’s organ was not publishing anything on the issue, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said: “Who is under a cloud now? It is Srinijin who is from the Congress. We have nothing to do with it. Our party organ is free to select what news it has to give.”
