Will John Mellencamp Be ‘Twittered’ Into A Senate Seat?
February 20th, 2010 - 4:46 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonFeb 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) All over Facebook and Twitter today, people have been trying very hard to gain supporters to get John Mellencamp to run for the United States Senate seat in Indiana. The seat was left vacant by Evan Bayh, who recently announced that he would not be seeking re-election. He stated “There are better ways to serve my fellow citizens, I love working for the people of Indiana. I love helping our citizens make the most of their lives, but I do not love Congress” and discussed his opinion that the Democrats have yet to create a single private sector job. “There is “too much narrow ideology and not enough practical problem solving, People’s business is not getting done.” he expressed.
Bayh made the announcement, which was covered by every major new network, with his family by his side. There have been complaints that he didn’t give President Obama enough of a notice. President Obama, however, had this to say of Bayh ,”He has fought tirelessly for Indiana’s working families, reaching across the aisle on issues ranging from job creation and economic growth to fiscal responsibility and national security. Michelle and I thank Senator Bayh for his leadership and service and wish him and his family all the best in their future endeavors.”
With the huge gap that this announcement left in the Democratic Seat, and the chance it leaves for the Republican party to take that seat, Democratic and John Mellencamp fans quickly rushed to get the word out on Facebook as well as Twitter. This page appeared soon after the announcement, “Draft John Mellencamp for Senate!” and it seems the movement is quickly spreading.
