New Delhi, May 20 (IANS) With an amended land acquisition bill likely to be tabled in the monsoon session of parliament, the government said Friday it will consult all stakeholders, including West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress, which is opposed to certain provisions of the legislation.
Rural Development Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh told reporters here that the government would complete its consultations by this month end before the draft legislation is sent to the law ministry for vetting and the central cabinet.
“The Land Acquisition Amendment Bill will be introduced in the coming parliament session. We will talk to all the stakeholders and those who have made separate recommendations in this regard. We will complete the talks by the month-end, after which we will send the draft to the law ministry, from where it will go to the cabinet,” Deshmukh said.
Deshmukh, who held discussions with a group of MPs on the bill Friday, will also meet with members of the National Advisory Council (NAC) led by United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the next few days on its recommendations for the draft legislation.
In its recommendations, the NAC had proposed integration of relief measures with land acquisition initiatives.
To a query on the Trinamool Congress’ opposition to certain provisions of the bill, the minister said he would hold talks with the party leaders, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, before the legislation is sent to the cabinet.
