Will be chief minister if we get majority: Mamata

Kolkata, April 15 (IANS) Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has asserted she will be the chief minister if Trinamool Congress-Congress combine wins majority in the upcoming West Bengal assembly polls.
“Let us seek the ballot, let the people vote first. People will decide, it is the people’s choice. I cannot betray the people so I will be with the people. They are voting for me because they love me. It is their choice I cannot betray them. This time they want this,” said Banerjee in an interview to CNN-IBN.
The state goes to polls in six phases from April 18 to May 10 to elect 294 members for the new assembly. The counting will take place May 13.
On a pointed query whether she will take up the top post or control the state government by remote control, Banerjee said, “The people will decide, it depends on vote … if there is a majority of course.”
Banerjee also said her party will continue to support the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in New Delhi.
“No, I want to stay with the UPA because … we will support this government… we will continue to do that. I have no problem to work with the UPA II,” said Banerjee.
“I had a problem with UPA-I when CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) was there…now CPM is not there, we’ll give the support to UPA-II, no problem,” she said.
When asked to comment on union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Banerjee replied: “I maintain the best relations with him. And he is very fatherly figure.”
