Washington Feb 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to a report by the Chicago Sun-Times on Friday, White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers will be stepping down in March. Rogers, during her 14 months on the job in Washington, she hosted 330 events. That averages out to 23 to 24 events a month! This was quite a feat in itself, and she feels as though she has made the White House a “more open place.”

Rogers told Sun-Times columnist, Lynn Sweet, “As we turn the corner on the first year, this is a good time for me to explore opportunities in the corporate world.”

Rogers also was the center of controversy last year in November, when Virginia socialites Michaele and Tareq Salahi attended the White House’s first state dinner without an invitation. It was firmly requested of Rogers, by Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee, that she testify explaining how the couple was able to get into the highly guarded event. In December, the White House press secretary Robert Gibbs announced that Rogers would not testify at the hearing concerning this controversy due to separation of powers.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this president and first lady, in what has certainly been a historic presidency.” Rogers told reporters.
