- WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — The White House on Saturday said it is monitoring reports of irregularities after Friday’s presidential vote. Violent clashes erupted after official election results showed that President Ahmadinejad had won the elections. His main contender, a former PM, refused to accept the results.
“Like the rest of the world, we were impressed by the vigorous debate and enthusiasm that this election generated, particularly among young Iranians. We continue to monitor the entire situation closely, including reports of irregularities,” Robert Gibbs, White House spokesman, said in a brief statement.
