West’s call for nuclear talks a ruse: Larijani
July 4th, 2010 - 7:10 pm ICT by IANSTehran, July 4 (IANS) Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani says the West’s call to resume negotiations with Tehran on its nuclear programme is a ruse.
“The Western countries, and particularly the US, are following a deceitful path,” Larijani said in an interview with Mehr news agency published Sunday.
“On the one hand, they have taken coercive measures against Iran at the UN Security Council, and on the other hand, they are seeking diplomacy by calling for more dialogue,” he added.
Asked about Iran’s conditions for talks, the parliament speaker said dialogue should be conducted within a specific framework and in a manner different from the previous talks.
The priorities for Iran at present are improving its nuclear technology and accelerating its nuclear activities, he said.
“But if the Westerners persist with their aggressive approach toward Iran’s nuclear programme, Tehran will respond to them in line with plans approved by the Iranian parliament,” he noted.
“Parliament has passed legislation requiring the administration to continue enriching uranium to 20 percent level,” Larijani added.
