West Bengal university vice-chancellor quits after ‘insult’
October 11th, 2009 - 11:20 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Oct 11 (IANS) The vice-chancellor of a university in West Bengal has resigned, complaining of “insulting behaviour” of a section of professors.
Ranajit Kumar Samanta, vice-chancellor of the Bidhan Chandra Roy Krishi Vishva Vidyalaya in Nadia district quit after a section of its professors under the umbrella of an association backed by the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) ransacked his room Oct 5 on some administrative issues.
“Yes, I have decided not to continue in office. It’s a question of principle. The way a section of professors behaved was very insulting,” said Samanta, a noted agricultural scientist.
The resignation letter has been forwarded to the chancellor and state Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
