Website on 1984 anti-Sikh riots to be launchedMarch 26th, 2009 - 6:15 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, March 26 (IANS) A website seeking punishment for perpetrators of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and designed by a Sikh organisation is to be launched in the capital Friday.
The website has been designed by the All India Sikh Conference (Babbar). It carries details about the riots on a day to day basis, the people involved in the carnage and how victims are still waiting for justice.
“The motive of launching the website is to seek peoples’ mandate and create pressure on the government to punish those involved in the carnage,” said All India Sikh Conference chief Gurcharan Singh Babbar.
“The government has failed to provide justice to the victims of the 1984 carnage, and the people involved in the massacre have gone scot free,” said Babbar.
The 1984 anti-Sikh riots broke out after the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi by two of her Sikh bodyguards in a reaction to the army entering the Golden Temple to flush out Sikh militants hiding inside. In Delhi alone, over 3,000 people, mostly Sikhs, were killed in the riots.
