Raipur, March 9 (IANS) The personal security officers (PSO) provided by the state government as escorts are being used to spy on opposition legislators, Congress members in the Chhattisgarh assembly alleged Wednesday.
“I wish to draw the attention of the house towards a very serious and sensational fact that the PSOs provided to the opposition legislators are used for spying,” Leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey alleged.
He further said “how the legislators can discharge his or her parliamentary duties if such practices go on”.
Choubey accused the Chhattisgarh’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of misusing the government machinery.
“Several opposition members have brought it to my notice about the fact that PSOs were spying on them, It’s not a healthy sign in the parliamentary system,” Choubey remarked and sought a statement on the issue from state government.
He said that the PSOs provided to escort opposition members are being summoned to the police headquarters regularly to enquire about the movement and activities of the legislators.
Choubey demanded that the state government should look into the matter and reveal names of the officials who have been collecting intelligence inputs related to the activities and movement of opposition members.
