patyNov 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Washington State election results indicate that the Democrats and Republicans are tied neck to neck in the battle for power. With poll results showing that the Democrat Senator Patty Murray holding a small but significant lead over Dino Rossi at this point, it is obvious that the entire nation is eagerly anticipating the final result. With more than half the ballots counted Patty Murray led with a meager 1 percent at 50.5% of the total votes polled. Her margin was 14000 votes in the 1.4 million already counted so far.

Senator Patty Murray who has already served as the senator for the state since 1985 is locked in what can be called the hardest battle for the seat in her political career. National Democrats are hoping that their candidate will retain her seat to avoid further losses in the state. Both the candidates, however, have shown great confidence in their campaigns and are also confident of a win. The razor thin margin enjoyed by the Democratic Senator makes it difficult to determine who will emerge as the winner when all the votes are counted.

During a speech in downtown Seattle, Patty Murray said she was winning today and was confident that the trend would continue till the end of the race. Speaking in Bellevue, a Seattle suburb, Dino Rossi said that he was not going to concede the race with so many ballots still to be counted. He said that the night was about a ‘course correction’ across America. One Patty Murray adviser, however, said that the Democrat had stronger chances of winning as the votes remaining to be counted are expected from King and Snohomish county where Patty Murray has a strong presence.
