New Delhi, Oct 7 (IANS) Ahead of the assembly polls, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Wednesday appealed to people in Haryana and Mahasrashtra to vote the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to power.
Apologising for his absence from the election scene owing to poor health, the octogenarian leader has asked the people to vote for the BJP to get rid of inflation, law and order problems and terrorism in their states.
“Haryana has been the state of farmers, soldiers and hard working people…. unfortunately life in such a state is not safe. Law and order is in shambles. Corruption is rampant and inflation has broken backs of common people,” says Vajpayee in his message.
“It is my appeal to all of you to give your precious vote to the BJP to help it get into power,” he said.
Talking about the rule of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra during 1995-99, Vajpayee said, “Maharashtrians have seen the rule of the BJP and Shiv Sena in the past, during which it primarily worked for the development and security of the common man.”
Vajpayee, 84, has not been keeping well for a while and did not contest the April-May Lok Sabha elections.
The party will be using his appeals and the audio CDs and cassettes of his speeches and poems for campaigning in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh.
The party is banking on Vajpayee’s charisma, especially in Maharashtra where it with ally Shiv Sena is looking to oust the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance that has been in power for a decade.
