Amethi, Sep 1 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Wednesday said voting his party to power in Uttar Pradesh will be a solution to problems related to implementation of central government-sponsored schemes, a party spokesperson said.
“Rahulji was of the view that owing to non-seriousness of the state government, various public welfare schemes and other projects sponsored by the central government are not being implemented properly in Uttar Pradesh,” Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh told reporters.

“He urged the people to bring Congress to power in Uttar Pradesh for its all-round development,” Singh said.

“While attending a public function in the Bahadurpur village, Rahulji also asked the people to seek an account from the state government on the utilisation of funds being released by the central government for the development of the state,” Singh said.

Gandhi, who Wednesday started a three-day visit of his Amethi parliamentary constituency, also said at a public function that the Congress was making every effort so that the poor and the downtrodden could join the mainstream.

“Rahulji said there are two parts of India - one is represented by the rich and the second has poor people who do not get enough opportunities in life so that they can compete with their rich counterparts,” said Singh.

“He told the people that his party was committed to providing opportunities and services to the poor people, particularly farmers, so that their living standard could improve and they could live happily,” added Singh.

During the first day of his tour, Gandhi visited several villages to evaluate the progress of the central government-sponsored schemes.

In Sarvan village, two sisters intercepted Gandhi’s vehicle while the Congress leader was on his way to attend a public function.

“The two women approached Rahulji for help. They two told Rahulji that their uncles had fraudulently acquired the property of their parents after their death. They also asked Rahulji to help them in getting police protection. Rahulji heard the girls patiently and later instructed his representative to sort out the issue,” said Singh.

In Katnau village, Gandhi released fish in a pond and also planted saplings around it.

Gandhi was accompanied by telecom expert Sam Pitroda, who is currently advisor to the prime minister on public information infrastructure and innovations, at the start of his tour of the constituency, a party spokesperson said.

“Rahulji during his tour is expected to visit a number of villages in order to evaluate public welfare schemes sponsored by the state government. He would also meet party workers and attend a number of social programmes in Amethi,” he added.

Amethi is about 120 km from Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh capital.
