Shimla, June 23 (IANS) Union Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Virbhadra Singh turned 77 Thursday. His supporters celebrated his birthday with special prayers, dancing and distribution of sweets in this Himachal Pradesh town.

Since early morning, a large number of party activists and well-wishers started pouring in at his private residence, Holly Lodge, located in Jakhu Hills.

Greeting his supporters, Singh, the five-time former chief minister and Congress leader, said: “I am grateful for the love and affection shown by you.”

Singh, who belongs to the erstwhile royal family of Bushehr state, said here last week that he would not contest the next Lok Sabha elections. But he declined to answer if he would contest the next state assembly polls.

“I would not contest the 2014 Lok Sabha polls,” he said.

During the parliamentary elections, the Congress managed to win only one of the four Lok Sabha seats from Himachal Pradesh, with Singh bagging the Mandi seat by a margin of 13,000 votes.
