Vijaykant causes traffic snarlApril 24th, 2009 - 11:02 pm ICT by IANS
Chennai, April 24 (IANS) Actor-turned-politician Vijaykant, angry over action by Election Commission officials, caused a traffic snarl for more than two hours on an arterial road in Tamil Nadu’s Dharmapuri district Friday, police said.
“Trouble arose after some DMDK vehicles belonging to the actor’s fans were seized upon the orders of Election Commission officials. Vijaykant stayed put in his van resulting in a huge traffic jam,” a police official told IANS.
“Vijaykant, however, continued his campaign following assurances from Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Panchavarnam and Assistant Returning Officer R. Shanmugham and the release of the vehicles,” the official added.
He later addressed party workers in Dharmapuri, some 300 km from here, and blamed the ruling DMK for the incident. He said that his organisation had enough muscle power to counter the rowdyism by the DMK.
“Obviously the ruling DMK instigated the police to threaten me and my workers without realising the people’s support I enjoy and the muscle power at my party’s command,” Vijaykant said.
