Following is the text of the Vice President’s condolence message-

“I am deeply grieved to learn about the sad demise of Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, popularly known as YSR, a charismatic mass leader who has carved for himself a niche in the politics of Andhra Pradesh by his exemplary devotion and dedication to the uplift of the downtrodden and neglected segments of society.

During his long political career, he served the people of Andhra Pradesh and the country in multiple capacities.

Dr. Reddy would be remembered for his personal qualities and modesty, his deep empathy for the poor and downtrodden and for the rational changes he brought about in administrative matters in the State through an emphasis on development of the rural economy alongside new and emerging technological sectors.

My wife joins me in sending our heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and the wide circle of his admirers and friends. We pray to the Almighty to grant them strength and fortitude to withstand this tragedy”.

The Bell 430 helicopter carrying Reddy, two of his staff and two pilots went missing in pouring rain Wednesday morning over the Naxal and tiger-infested Nalamalla forests and with no contact until early Thursday.
