Veteran US Diplomat Richard Holbrooke Passes Away At 69

Dec 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Top ranking American diplomat Richard Holbrooke breathed his last at George Washington University Hospital in Washington on Monday. The former Special Representative of President Barack Obama’s office was admitted to hospital last Friday after he fell ill. State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley, on Saturday said that the envoy was in critical condition after his heart surgery. Richard Holbrooke was 69 year old.
Richard Holbrooke’s death brought in a wave of sorrow among the nation. US Diplomats and politicians from other countries also expressed their condolence at the sudden demise of the veteran envoy. US President Barack Obama expressed his condolence at the unfortunate demise of Richard Holbrooke. Previously in one of his statements, he called the Assistant Secretary of State as a towering figure of the nation. After the news of Richard Holbrooke’s demise was announced, President Barack Obama released a statement where it was stated that the envoy dedicated his life to enrich American foreign policy and his relentless effort has made America safer, stronger and more respected.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also expressed her condolence and said that Richard Holbrooke was one of the most dedicated public servants and “fiercest champions” of United States. She also said that the Special Representative was a true fighter till the end. John Kerry, Democratic Senator of Massachusetts also praised Richard Holbrooke for his hard work and toughness. Speaking about the former Peace Corps official he said that Richard Holbrooke was the man on the toughest mission of restoring peace in the nation. He said that the late envoy’s work saved thousands of lives. Richard Holbrooke is survived by his third wife, his two sons and their families and his two step children.
