Kolkata, Sep 3 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday criticized the process of electing the Congress party president and, without naming Sonia Gandhi, questioned whether the seat had been reserved for only one family.
Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu, without naming Sonia Gandhi, said he had no problem with who becomes the COngress party president but there should be a proper procedure of electing and added that every one should get equal opportunity to become the party chief.
Sonia Gandhi, already the longest serving incumbent, Friday became Congress party chief unopposed for a successive fourth term.
Gandhi, 63, first assumed office as party president in 1998.
Naidu Friday launched a scathing attack on Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for failing to control the Maoist menace in the country.
He said the UPA government has failed to control the Maoist menace. It did not take any steps to solve it except making some bold statements, Naidu told mediapersons here.
“The UPA government should sit with the affected state governments to formulate a strategy against the Maoists,” Naidu said.
Naidu also slammed the government’s foreign policy, saying due to its “weak foreign policy it is tolerating China”.
Naidu said that China is building helipads in Indian territory, denying visas to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Kashmir, and “still the UPA government is silent”.
