Gandhinagar, March 26 (IANS) Former Gujarat chief ministers Shankarsinh Vaghela and Suresh Mehta Friday warned the Narendra Modi government to desist from any attempt to disrupt the convention of their non-political citizens group, Prabuddha Nagarik Shakti Manch, at Sanand on the outskirts of Ahmedabad Sunday.
“Any attempt to do so will be fraught with grave consequences and the consequences will be the sole responsibility of the Modi government,” the two said, addressing media persons in Ahmedabad.

Vaghela said the Manch had sought police permission for holding the convention well in time but the organisers have yet to get a response from the authorities.

“No written permission has been issued so far,” he said, adding that the Modi government had willfully sought to scuttle their previous rally held in Ahmedabad Dec 6 through use of force.

“If similar attempts are made at the Sanand convention, the consequences of any resultant violence would rest on the state government,” Vaghela said, adding the convention will be held as scheduled whether or not permission is granted.

Vaghela said about one lakh people from all over the state are expected to attend the convention where “the Modi government’s misdeeds will be highlighted”. “The chief minister is trying to mislead the people with tall and false claims,” he added.

Mehta said a large number of state government employees who were fed up with the government’s “anti-worker” policies would attend the convention.
