Uttar Pradesh probing jailed legislator’s video
December 6th, 2011 - 11:34 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Dec 6 (IANS) The Uttar Pradesh Police have ordered a probe into a video clip allegedly showing jailed mafia don turned legislator Amarmani Tripathi campaigning for his son ahead of the assembly elections, an official said.
Tripathi’s son Amanmani is tipped to be his political heir from Nautanwa assembly constituency in Maharajganj district along the India-Nepal border, about 300 km from here.
Amanmani has been given a Samajwadi Party ticket for the 2012 state assembly polls.
“On the face of it, it seems that the video clip was doctored. But we have ordered a probe into the shooting of the film,” the state’s Additional Director General of Police Subesh Kumar Singh told IANS.
Amarmani Tripathi has been in jail since October 2007, after he was convicted for the murder of young Hindi poetess Madhumita Shukla and sentenced to a life term.
