Uttar Pradesh minister meets jailed BSP MPJuly 15th, 2008 - 11:57 pm ICT by IANS
Lucknow, July 15 (IANS) Bahujan Samaj Party’s jailed parliamentarian Uma Kant Yadav was Tuesday paid a visit by state PWD Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui on the direction of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. Gearing up to defeat the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government on the floor of the house, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati seems to be counting on each MP from her party, including Uma Kant Yadav, MP from Machchlishahar in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district.
On the directions of Mayawati, Naseemuddin Siddiqui met Uma Kant Yadav in the Fatehgarh jail in Farukkhabad district, jail sources said.
The meeting between the two assumes significance since Mayawati May 30 had herself ordered the arrest of the MP on charges of taking law and order in his hands, and the BSP is now pitching itself to vote against the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government during the confidence motion in the Lok Sabha July 22.
Later talking to newspersons, Siddiqui said it was a routine visit to ask the well being of his party’s MP.
Meanwhile, Ateeq Ahmad, Samajwadi Party MP from Phoolpur constituency in Allahabad district, also made his intention clear to stand by Mayawati on the floor of the Lok Sabha and oppose the India-US nuclear deal during the confidence vote July 22, sources said.
Ateeq is at present in jail in Mainpuri district on charges of killing former BSP legislator from Allahabad constituency Raju Pal.
On the request of Ateeq, the district court in Mainpuri Tuesday directed the district administration to make proper security arrangements for him to attend the parliament session July 21 and 22, sources said.
