US watching passage of n-bill: Roemer
August 26th, 2010 - 2:07 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS) The US was watching the passage of the civil nuclear liability bill and was hoping it “will turn out well”, US ambassador Timothy J. Roemer said Thursday, a day after the bill was passed by the Lok Sabha.
“We are watching as it passes, we hope it will turn out well,” Roemer said on the sidelines of a workshop on Women in Science here.
“India and US cooperation in science and technology is important for the strategic ties between the two countries. President Obama and Secretary (of State Hillary) Clinton value this relationship,” he said. “Education is one of the pillars for this.
“It (the bill) has been passed by the lower house, we are watching as it is passed by the upper house,” he said.
The civil nuclear liability bill will pave way for operationalising the India-US nuclear deal, which was signed in 2008.
