US wants Trinamool to win: Karat
April 21st, 2011 - 4:45 pm ICT by IANS
Kolkata, April 21 (IANS) CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat said Thursday that leaked US diplomatic cables showed that the US wanted the Trinamool Congress to rule West Bengal.
The cables, accessed by WikiLeaks, also showed that the US was cultivating Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader told a news conference here.
Karat sought an explanation from the Trinamool on the issue.
“The WikiLeaks cables contain a report from the consulate general of the US in Kolkata sent after the general elections in 2009 which says the Trinamool will be friendly with the US,” Karat said.
“The cables show in very clear terms that the US wants to see the Trinamool at the helm of affairs in the state and they are cultivating her and her party.”
