biden Baghdad, Aug 31 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The United States will hold a ceremony today in Iraq to mark the end of military combat in the country.

Already, the vice president of the United States, Joe Biden has arrived in the country for the ceremony and President Barack Obama is expected to give a speech where he will formally announce the end of the combat.

There will however be some 50,000 United States troops in Iraq to aid in non-combative diplomacy. But President Barack Obama hopes to move the last American troop out of Iraq by the end of 2011.

But for that to be successful, Vice President Joe Biden should be able to convince Iraq’s political rivals to work together for the interest of the country. Currently, Iraq do not have a functioning government after the country’s last elections ended in a deadlock and there seem to be no solution in sight to form a government.

“It is the fulfillment of that election pledge. But it is embarrassing for them to withdraw and still we don’t have a government in place, because all the achievements, all the sacrifices that have been made, could be in jeopardy. It is embarrassing for us also,” according to Iraq’s foreign minister Hoshyer Zebari.

There are fears that if the United States moves out of the country, insurgents and terrorists will threaten the security of the country but the United States authorities maintain that the Iraqi security forces will be able to handle the situation.
