Barack Obama Beijing, Nov 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) US President Barack Obama is on an official state visit to China at the behest of the Chinese president Hu Jintao. He returned the favor by inviting him to US, in 2010.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting US President Barack Obama had official talks in Beijing on Tuesday morning to discuss bilateral ties and global issues of mutual concern.

Apart from the President, Obama met the Prime Minister Wen Jiabao too. “We have had very productive discussions over the last two days,” Obama said after meeting with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday. “I think President Hu and myself agreed in our first meeting that we wanted to try to deepen the strategic partnership and relationship between the United States and China. A relationship that used to be focused just on economic and trade issues is now expanding to deal with a whole host of global issues in which U.S. -China cooperation is critical.”

These important talks were held at the Great Hall of the People after a closed-door meeting between the two presidents, Xinhua reported.

They also talked of a joint desire to take stock of the climate change, but failed miserably to arrive at a consensus. This could hamper a deal at the 192-nation conference in Copenhagen, how much each country can contribute to curb greenhouse gases and how the world will pay the billions of dollars needed to fight rising temperatures.
