US politicians all set to debate on ‘YouTube Town Hall’
May 20th, 2011 - 12:07 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York City, May 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) For the first time in the history of US politics, politicians will have the luxury to debate on key issues without their party tags. Thanks to YouTube, two Congress members will go head to head in a debate on a topic which will be selected by a user.
The new project has been dubbed “Town Hall” and it is the first of its kind. The public will have the chance to watch videos of the two politicians debate on the topic selected by the user. After the debate, YouTube viewers will have the chance to watch the debate and choose which politician was most convincing. The viewers will only get to know the party affiliations of the politicians after watching the videos.
The questions will be purely selected by users of YouTube and the video with the most votes will be placed on YouTube Ledearboard. The videos are expected to be added to YouTube every month by selected members of Congress.
United States is currently experiencing greater political polarization in their history. Americans are nowadays divided over everything and the division is mainly on political lines. The creators of “Town Hall” hope that the program will give politicians the chance to discuss issues without their party affiliations.
