U.S. Delegation to travel to Kiev, Ukraine

WASHINGTON D.C. (BNO NEWS) – A Presidential Delegation will travel to Kiev, Ukraine on February 25 to attend the inauguration of Viktor Yanukovych, elected President of Ukraine, U.S. President Barack Obama announced.

The delegation will be led by the honorable general James L. Jones, National Security advisor to the President. He will be joined, among others, by John Tefft, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine.

In 2009, Viktor Yanukovych obtained 48.95% of the votes, winning the 2010 Ukrainian Presidential Election. His opposition, Yulia Tymoshenko got 45.47% and protested heavily the results determined by the Ukrainian Central Election Commission.

The President-elect of Ukraine served as the Governor of Donetsk Oblast in 1997 and 2002. He also served twice as the Prime Minister of Ukraine in 2002 and 2006.
