Raipur, July 13 (IANS) India’s main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has no reservations on voting with the Left parties against the confidence motion to be moved by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government July 22, party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said here Sunday. “Why should there be any reservations? After all, the BJP has earlier joined hands with even Congress to vote against the confidence motion during the tenure of V.P. Singh government,” Prasad told a press conference at state BJP headquarters.

“Majority would vote against the motion and the UPA government would fall,” he added.

Prasad said the BJP would indeed vote with its bitter political rival - the Left Front -against the confidence motion, but had different reasons for opposing the nuclear deal with the Left leaders.

“The Left are opposing the US and so the deal. But we are opposing it as the deal will cap India’s strategic capacities,” the BJP spokesperson stated.

When asked why most of the imminent Indian scientists are supporting the deal, Prasad said: “Many senior and prominent scientists are also opposing the deal.”

Prasad alleged that the UPA government had tangled the deal issue to divert the attention of people from its failure to check rising inflation and its four-year misrule.
