UPA government has failed in tackling terror: Rajnath

Ghaziabad, May 31 (IANS) Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Rajnath Singh Monday charged the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government with failing to convince the US that most terrorist activities against India originated from Pakistan.
Talking to media persons here, he said India and America are strategic partners to tackle terrorism in Asian region but the UPA government has failed to convince the US that the technical and financial support being provided to Pakistan for curbing terrorist activities is being used by terrorists themselves. He demanded that all such support be stopped.
Rajnath Singh said the Indian government has found clues that the Maoists had links with Pakistan-based terror groups, but alleged the Congress was itself divided over how to tackle the increasing terror activities.
“The differences within the party are not hidden but are surfacing,” he said, claiming that the statements of Home Minister P.Chidambaram were being challenged within the party.
“It is reflecting the weak will to tackle the foreign-aided terrorism in India,” he said.
Rajnath Singh said that about three and a half years ago, he warned the government that China was building a dam over the Brahmputra river and that would create a disaster in northeastern states. The government, however, ignored his warning then and is now realising its mistake, he said.
“Wrong policies and economic disparities are responsible for terror activities in India, and the UPA government is an utter failure on this front. The result would be very hazardous,” he added.
