UPA government failed to control price rise: CPI-M

Kolkata, Feb 3 (IANS) West Bengal’s ruling Left Front major Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Wednesday attacked the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for failing to control the spiralling prices of essential commodities.
“The union government has miserably failed to regulate the food price rise. It’s more and more going out of control for the poor and middle class sections,” senior CPI-M leader and party’s central committee member Md. Salim told a press conference here.
Criticising the liberal economic policies of the UPA government, Salim said the union government also increased the fuel prices, which subsequently impacts the cost of every essential item.
“Instead of controlling the food price that is shooting through the roofs, the UPA allies are now busy in playing the blame game. No UPA ally can evade their role. It’s a collective responsibility that everyone has to shoulder,” he said.
“To safeguard the interest of the big industrial houses, the union government is putting the price burden on the poor and middle classes,” Salim claimed.
Talking about the Maoist violence, Salim, however, welcomed the UPA governmnet’s stand. “The union government is showing keen interest to tackle the Maoist menace.”
The CPI-M leader demanded clarification from UPA ally and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee about her stand on the Maoist issue.
“She has to clarify her party’s stand on the Maoist issue,” Salim said, terming the Trinamool supremo as a “self-appointed lawyer, a spokesperson” of the Left-wing ultras.
