Unlike other parties we don’t seek support on divisive policies: Sonia Gandhi
April 29th, 2009 - 10:04 pm ICT by adminAddressing an election rally in the capital, Congress President Sonia Gandhi listed out the achievements of UPA government and said that only Congress could provide security, growth and peace to the country. She said, “It is only the Congress which has sought support on the basis of its policies, ideology and prgrammes. Unlike other parties, we don’t seek votes for dividing the people and reiterating empty slogans. “We don’t need support for false promises,” she said.
Congress President said that it was for the people to see that how many development works had been done during last five years. She said, “An economist and a wise person like Dr Manmohan Singh is the Prime Minister of India and we have brought out the country from the mess of NDA regime.” She alleged that UPA government had inherited a troubled and economically weak country but due to the good governance of UPA it had progressed considerably. “It is the policies and efforts of the Congress that country has moved forward,” she said.
Mentioning the work done by government for the infrastructure sector, Congress President said that there were more spendings on electricity, water supply, healthcare and housing. She asked, “Did any non-congress government implemented schemes like NREGS or the loan waiver for the farmers? Did any government raised the MSP of agriculture produce or was there any huge increase in budget on higher education or technical education?” She stressed that no any government had done it earlier.
Congress President said that the government pushed up many schemes for the benefit of landless people and for those working in unorganized sector. She said, “Our government initiated insurance and pension scheme for them.” Speaking on sixth pay commission for government employees she said, “Millions of employees of central government have got benefit through sixth pay commission and this was nice to see that Delhi government under the leadership of Sheilaji has also implemented it.”
Attacking BJP on terrorism she said that opposition had completely forgotten what happened during their rule. She said, “During NDA rule, terrorists attacked our Parliament and a plane was hijacked to Kandhar. They released terrorists from jail and escorted them there. Now they say that our PM is weak.”
Congress President said that government had worked for the poor, Dalits, women, minorities and backwards. She sought their support for a next term to serve the common man. All the party candidates from the capital and many senior leaders including Delhi CM Sheila Dixit were present in the rally.
