New Delhi, June 7 (IANS) Veteran politician Uma Bharti Tuesday rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), nearly six years after being expelled for defying the party leadership.
The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister’s re-induction in the BJP was announced at a press conference here by party president Nitin Gadkari.
The 52-year-old will look after the party’s affairs in Uttar Pradesh, which goes to polls next year.
“I discussed the issue with all leaders and parliamentary party members and so I am announcing it now. With Uma Bharti, we will get power in Uttar Pradesh politics. I welcome her on behalf of the party,” Gadkari told reporters.
“Uttar Pradesh will be the main field for her work. She will manage the party propaganda in the state from Lucknow. With our faith on Lord Ram, we want Ram Rajya in the country. Uma Bharti will cooperate in this,” he said.
Thanking the party president for taking her back in the party, Bharti said she wanted to forget her nearly six years out of the party.
“After spending 15-16 years in the BJP, I left the party because of some obnoxious incidents,” Bharti said.
“In the last six or five years, I learned that if I want to contribute to the nation, I have to be faithful to the ideology and there is no other way than the BJP. So I want to forget the last five years,” Bharti said.
“Uttar Pradesh is an important state of our country, and it has been victim of major corruption, it has suffered because of caste-based politics,” she said.
“Uttar Pradesh may get its way from Ram Mandir to Ram Rajya, this is the concern of the party president and I will associate with it,” she added.
Bharti was expelled for indiscipline and defying the BJP’s central leadership in December 2005. She then launched her own party — the Bharatiya Janshakti Party.
Gadkari expressed confidence that the BJP will come to power in the state.
“Uttar Pradesh has experienced Mulayam Singh’s ‘Jungle Raj’ and now it is experiencing ‘Gunda Raj’ of Mayawati. Together we will end the ‘Gunda Raj’ of Mayawati which is filled with corruption and won’t let Mulayam Singh’s ‘Jungle Raj’ return,” he said.
