Mumbai, May 8 (IANS) Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray Sunday demanded the resignation of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar after the Reserve Bank of India superseded the board of directors of the Maharashtra State Cooperative (MSC) Bank, of which Pawar is a member.
Hinting that the bank is being indirectly controlled by Ajit Pawar and his uncle union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for the last 15 years, Thackeray said that Ajit Pawar should resign from his post as the deputy chief minister as various irregularities have been brought to light in the bank’s functioning.
“If resignation can be demanded from former chief minister Ashok Chavan in connection with the Adarsh scam, the same should apply for the present deputy chief minister too,” Thackeray said.
The Reserve Bank of India Saturday superseded the board of directors of the MSC Bank and appointed two administrators to manage its affairs following suspected irregularities in its functioning.
The MSC Bank provides agricultural and rural banking services.
The bank’s board comprises leaders and legislators from various parties, including Ajit Pawar, Diliprao Deshmukh, Minakshi Patil and others.
