UAE to create database on drug addicts
June 16th, 2011 - 11:51 pm ICT by IANSAbu Dhabi, June 16 (IANS/WAM) The UAE plans to create a national database on drug addicts.
In this endeavour, the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) has teamed up with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Both sides held a meeting here to review the drug-related issues. The database will help evaluate addiction cases.
NRC, UNODC, European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), officials and NGO representatives will study the impact of drug-related infectious diseases.
The findings will help formulate a national plan to fight the scourge.
NRC was set up in Abu Dhabi in 2002 for treatment and rehabilitation of drug abusers.
In collaboration with UNODC, it is trying to increase its capacity for helping patients, raise awareness and develop efficient methods for collecting drug abuse data.
