Two Tibetans set themselves afire in China
October 8th, 2011 - 12:41 am ICT by IANSChengdu (China), Oct 7 (IANS) Two Tibetans were slightly injured after a self-immolation attempt in Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China’s Sichuan Province on Friday, local authorities said.
The incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. (local time) in the county of Aba, when two men, 18-year-old Thongan and 20-year-old Tenzin, set themselves on fire, reported Xinhua.
The two were both former monks at the Kirti Monastery, and were dressed in civilian clothes when they made the move, said a spokesman with the county government.
They were rescued immediately and receiving treatment at a local hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening, said the spokesman.
Police are investigating their motives of self-immolation.
