Turkey congratulates Egyptian people
February 12th, 2011 - 1:57 am ICT by IANSCairo, Feb 12 (IANS) Turkey, which had called on Egyptian leaders to ensure a democratic solution to the political unrest, Friday congratulated the people of the Arab country after the announcement of long-serving president Hosni Mubarak’s quitting and hoped the new regime would meet their aspirations.”Congratulations to the Egyptian people. And we hope that a system meeting the expectations of the Egyptian people will emerge,” tweeted Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
“Egypt is a strong state and the continuity of the Egyptian institutions is of crucial importance,” he said.
Earlier this week, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that “No power can remain deaf to the democratic demands of the people. No power can remain standing in defiance of the people.”
He appealed directly to Mubarak, advising him to “listen to the people’s demands in the most humane way. Meet the people’s wish for change without hesitation”.
